EGRMC Starts New Cardiac Rehab Program
6/6/2019
Statesboro, GA – East Georgia Regional Medical Center is proud to announce the opening of its newest program, Cardiac Rehabilitation. This program is an extension to the facility’s growing cardiovascular service line. The new Cardiac Rehab Program is designed to enhance the quality of life for individuals who have experienced a cardiac event. Skilled professionals are trained to assist those patients who are beginning the journey toward a healthier lifestyle.
Cardiac rehab patients regain their confidence while increasing their overall well-being. Program participants are given resources to regain their ability to return to work and perform daily activities. This program is designed for patients who have had:
- Heart attack
- Bypass surgery
- Angina
- Stent placement
- Angioplasty
- Heart transplant
- Heart valve repair or replacement
- Chronic congestive heart failure (CHF)
“This is an exciting time in the evolution of EGRMC’s cardiology program,” said Dr. Kendall Griffith, interventional cardiologist on East Georgia Regional’s medical staff. “Adding cardiac rehab completes the circle of care for our patients who have had coronary stenting, open heart surgery, heart attack, and congestive heart failure. It is great to be part of a team dedicated to improving and extending the lives of those we serve in this and the surrounding communities.”
Patients that are enrolled in the cardiac rehab program attend exercise classes 2-3 times a week for up to a total of 36 sessions. Each session lasts approximately one hour. Along with exercise, the cardiac rehab team works with the patient on eating a heart-healthy diet, controlling high cholesterol, smoking cessation, regulating high blood pressure, and stress management.
“We are excited that the cardiovascular service line here at EGRMC now offers the extended services of cardiac rehab to our community, preventing the need to drive an hour or more away from home to receive complete, quality cardiac care,” said Tonya Eagle, Director of Cardiovascular Services at East Georgia Regional. “Our team looks forward to providing the support and the necessary resources for our patients to achieve their personal health and wellness goals. We will strive to exceed the expectations of each patient to ensure their experience is a positive one. It is a great day at EGRMC!”
Patients must be referred by their physician, and once beginning the program, the cardiac rehab team develops an exercise plan to meet their individual, specific needs. Together, the team and patient focus on increasing strength and endurance through aerobic and resistance training. During exercise, the cardiac rehab team monitors the patient’s heart rhythm, heart rate and blood pressure, in order to provide a safe, effective workout.
