STATESBORO, Ga. — For more than 25 years, Dawn Lambert, R.N., has been caring for patients at East Georgia Regional Medical Center, bringing compassion, knowledge and a reassuring presence to each patient and family she encounters.
Lambert, who began her career at EGRMC in May 1999, has worked in Same Day Surgery since January 2022. She was recently honored with a DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses after patients and colleagues recognized her for the exceptional care and compassion she consistently provides.
One patient’s family member nominated Lambert after experiencing her care while waiting for a loved one’s outpatient surgery. The surgery was delayed, making for a long and uncomfortable wait. Lambert noticed the family’s needs and offered warm blankets and a drink, small gestures that made a meaningful difference during an otherwise stressful experience.
“She was a very, very nice lady,” the nominator shared, expressing appreciation for the kindness Lambert showed throughout the long wait.
Another colleague recognized Lambert for the excellent care she provides in preparing patients for surgery, noting that she is consistently attentive and thorough in making sure patients are ready for their procedures.
A third nomination came from a family member whose mother was receiving care in Same Day Surgery. The family described Lambert as compassionate, knowledgeable and reassuring while answering their many questions throughout the process.
“During my mom’s visit, she provided compassionate care while answering the plethora of questions we threw her way,” the family member wrote. “She definitely helped us all breathe easier during this process. Her knowledge, bedside manner and care truly made this experience outstanding. Thank you, Dawn. You were outstanding and you are our sunshine.”
"Dawn’s DAISY Award is a testament to the exceptional, consistent care she delivers to every patient in same day surgery," said Marie Burdett, chief nursing officer at East Georgia Regional Medical Center. "Her clinical experience, responsiveness to patient needs, and dedication to excellence are clearly reflected in the nominations she’s received. It is incredibly rewarding to see our patients, their families, and her colleagues take the time to honor the profound impact she makes."
"For over 25 years, Dawn has been a steadfast source of support for our patients at East Georgia Regional Medical Center," said Stephen Pennington, CEO of East Georgia Regional Medical Center. "This DAISY Award reflects the commitment, compassion, and professional excellence she brings to the hospital every day. We are deeply grateful for her dedication to providing outstanding care to both our patients and their families."
If you have had a nurse at East Georgia Regional Medical Center who made a difference in your care or the care of a loved one, consider nominating them for a DAISY Award. Patients, families and colleagues are encouraged to share stories of nurses who demonstrate extraordinary compassion, clinical knowledge and a commitment to exceptional patient care.
The DAISY Award is an international recognition program that honors and celebrates the extraordinary clinical skill and compassionate care nurses provide every day. East Georgia Regional Medical Center is proud to partner with The DAISY Foundation to recognize nurses whose dedication makes a lasting difference in the lives of patients, families and fellow team members.
The DAISY Foundation is a not-for-profit organization, established by the family of J. Patrick Barnes. Patrick died at the age of 33 in late 1999 from complications of Idiopathic Thrombocytopenic Purpura, an auto-immune disease. DAISY is an acronym for Diseases Attacking the Immune System. The care Patrick and his family received from nurses while he was ill inspired this unique means of thanking nurses for making a profound difference in the lives of their patients and patient families.
