3/1/2026
STATESBORO, GA – East Georgia Regional Medical Center (EGRMC) is proud to announce that Blake Morgan, R.N., of the intensive care unit (ICU) has been named a recipient of the DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses, a national recognition that honors nurses who provide compassionate, skillful care and make a profound difference in the lives of their patients and families.
Blake was nominated by multiple patient families who shared deeply personal stories of the compassion and dedication he showed during some of their most difficult moments.
One nomination came from the family member of a patient who was transitioning to hospice care. In the nomination, the family member wrote that Blake “has been with my husband for three very difficult days. My husband is now in hospice and Blake was instrumental in assuring the process was smooth. My daughter and I are in a much better place emotionally due to Blake’s support and comfort through both his words and his actions.”
Another patient’s family was present at the award presentation and shared their own nomination recognizing Blake’s extraordinary compassion and faith driven service.
The family described how Blake cared for their loved one while he was critically ill in the ICU and on a ventilator. When doctors initially planned to remove the breathing tube the following week, the family requested one additional day. Blake remained deeply involved in the patient’s care and even expressed his hope to be present when the moment came.
“He said, ‘I’m off tomorrow, and I want to see this through.’ That statement pierced my heart,” the family member wrote. “God knew I wanted him there too.”
As it turned out, Blake was present the day the ventilator was successfully removed.
“When Blake came in to check on my husband. My husband’s voice may have been silent, but the smile that came across his face when he saw Blake could have been a blast from a cannon. That touched my heart and soul.”
The family concluded their nomination by writing that Blake is “a nurse who truly works from his heart,” adding that the compassion he shows is something that cannot be taught.
“God gave it to him, and he chooses to put it into everyday life. The medical field and the world needs more Blakes.”
“The DAISY Award celebrates nurses who go above and beyond to make a meaningful difference in the lives of their patients,” said Chief Nursing Officer Marie Burdett. “Blake Morgan exemplifies what it means to provide extraordinary nursing care through compassion, clinical knowledge and a genuine connection with the patients and families he serves during some of their most difficult moments.”
“Blake’s compassionate dedication to exceptional patient care truly represents the heart of East Georgia Regional Medical Center,” said CEO Stephen Pennington. “We are proud to recognize him with the DAISY Award and grateful for the comfort, professionalism and kindness he brings to our patients and their families every day.”
The DAISY Award is part of an international program that celebrates the extraordinary clinical skill and compassionate care nurses provide to patients and families every day.
