East Georgia Regional Medical Center Honors Laurie Baxter, R.N., with DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nursing

Statesboro, GA — November 21, 2025 – East Georgia Regional Medical Center is proud to recognize Laurie Baxter, RN, a nurse on the medsurg telemetry unit, as the recipient of the DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nursing.
Laurie was nominated by patients and family members for her compassion, professionalism, and ability to provide exceptional care during difficult and unexpected circumstances. Since beginning her nursing career in 2012, Laurie has become known not only for her clinical knowledge, but also for her calming presence and dedication to educating patients and supporting new nurses.
One patient’s family member shared, “Laurie is very compassionate and knowledgeable of her profession. She is constantly checking to see if we need anything and explains everything in layman’s terms so it is easy to understand. She is an outstanding RN.”
Another nomination came from a Navy veteran who credited Laurie with making a frightening experience more manageable following a serious injury and surgery.
“Miss Baxter is an extraordinary nurse. I had an unfortunate fall and was admitted for surgery to repair a fractured femur. Baxter showed compassion, understanding, and attentiveness and even shared a joke or two to lighten the mood. I had never been through something like this before, and because of her exemplary work, she made me feel at ease and truly cared for. I am very thankful she was on duty during my stay and highly recommend her for this nomination.”
In addition to her bedside care, Laurie is recognized by her peers for serving as an excellent nurse mentor, helping guide and train new hires as they begin their nursing careers.
“The DAISY Award celebrates nurses who go above and beyond to make a meaningful difference in the lives of their patients,” said Chief Nursing Operator Marie Burdett. “Laurie Baxter exemplifies what it means to provide extraordinary nursing care through compassion, knowledge, and genuine connection with those she serves.”

The DAISY Award is an international program that honors nurses for the extraordinary, compassionate care they provide patients and families every day. Laurie was presented with a DAISY Award certificate, pin, and a hand carved stone sculpture in recognition of her achievement.
