Gastroenterology Institute recently joined East Georgia Medical & Surgical Associates, becoming part of their comprehensive medical group in Statesboro.
Dr. Joe Hathaway and his wife, Tina Hathaway, MSN, NP-C, are the two providers based at this well-established gastroenterology practice, and are looking forward to this new partnership.
Dr. Hathaway is an experienced physician specializing in adult gastroenterology. After earning his doctorate from the Medical University of South Carolina, he went on to complete an internal medicine residency and a gastroenterology fellowship at the University of North Carolina Hospitals in Chapel Hill. Dr. Hathaway also served as assistant professor of internal medicine at Mercer University in Macon, Georgia.
Dr. Hathaway works diligently to stay up-to-date on the latest advancements and best practices in the field of gastroenterology, and maintains an active membership with the American College of Gastroenterology, the American Gastroenterology Association and the American Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy. He is board-certified in gastroenterology.
Some of Dr. Hathaway’s special interests include therapeutic endoscopy, capsule endoscopy, ERCP (endoscopic retrograde cholangio pancreatography), esophageal and colonic stents, Bravo pH Probe, Esophageal Manometry and BARRX procedure (a Barretts Esophagus treatment). He also has a passion for the treatment of inflammatory bowel disease.
Tina Hathaway, MSN, NP-C, also sees patients at Gastroenterology Institute, and brings added value to this practice with her experience, education and background. Tina graduated from Georgia Southern University with her Bachelor of Science degree in nursing, then went on to South University in Savannah to receive her nurse practitioner’s degree with a specialization in adult-gerontology primary care. Her depth of experience ranges from staff nursing to clinical nurse manager, practice manager, and now as adult nurse practitioner alongside Dr. Joe Hathaway. Tina is board-certified by the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners.

Gastroenterology Institute opened in 2011, and continues to thrive in the Statesboro community.
