Volunteer Services

The Hospital Auxiliary

The dedicated members of the Auxiliary of East Georgia Regional Medical Center volunteer their time and talents throughout the hospital. They help support our high standards of patient care, bring comfort and cheer to patients and family, perform tasks that lighten the load of hospital staff, and enable the hospital to provide additional services. The pink uniforms of our ladies and red jackets of our gentlemen can identify our Auxiliary members.

Some of the services performed by our Auxiliary include:

  • Gift Shop operation and management.
  • Delivery of mail to patients and hospital departments.
  • Delivery of flowers, balloons, and gifts to patient.
  • Staffing of information desks.
  • Visitation services in patient areas.
  • Assisting families of surgical patients.
  • Providing clerical support to patient units or hospital departments.

Join the Auxiliary

For information on joining the Auxiliary, contact the Volunteer Services office at (912) 486-1575 from 9 am to 5 pm, Monday - Friday. We will be happy to discuss how you can help others by becoming a part of the Auxiliary. Areas of service for volunteers keep growing, and we need more volunteers. You will be asked to volunteer only four hours of your time each week, but you are welcome to volunteer more. Join us and share the rewards of giving to others!

Student Volunteers (College)

Applications are accepted for college student volunteers during a three-week period at the beginning of the semester: two weeks prior to and the week of the start of the semester. Students can download the Application Form and email the completed application along with at least TWO letters of recommendation and a statement of purpose (why you want to volunteer at East Georgia Regional Medical Center) to gillian.cairney@hma.com. Applications and letters can also be dropped off at the office of the Director of Volunteer Services at the hospital.

Applicants will be contacted the second week of the semester if they have been selected as a hospital volunteer. At orientation, students will be able to select a shift to volunteer, and sign their Commitment Form. Please note: Student volunteers will be required to complete a minimum of 40 hours of service to attain a certified letter stating hours.

There will be no students scheduled in the evenings after 7 p.m. or on the weekends. Student’s shifts are typically a four-hour block, once a week.
