Statesboro is the County seat of Bulloch County . Statesboro was incorporated on December 19, 1803, with a population of less than 25 people. According to 2000 census data, the City's population had grown to 22,698 and is now estimated to be approximately 23,120. Bulloch County 's population according to the latest census data is well over 60,000 people and fast approaching approximately 70,000 people. The 2005 median income per household for Statesboro was $33,966 and for Bulloch County it was $21,678. Unemployment has remained relatively low for at least the last five years. In 2005, the state unemployment average rate was 5% and for Bulloch County the average was 4.4%.

The County is experiencing moderate growth industrially; however, residential growth has widely exceeded all expectations. The City added 122 new housing units in 2004 and the County added well over 200 new housing units. The cost of housing in Bulloch County is amongst the lowest in the Country. The average residential sales price in 2004 was approximately $125,000. The median value of home owner occupied units was $101,122.

Veterans Memorial Parkway is a perimeter road that encircles most of Statesboro, opened in 1994. This Parkway extends south from Highway 80 West then circles north to Highway 301 North. This site is Bulloch County 's major industrial and commercial economic development area. This area has lured major corporations such as Briggs & Stratton, Viracon, and Wal-Mart to name a few. These companies provide jobs not only for Bulloch County but also: Evans, Bryan, Candler, Emanuel, Jenkins, Screven, and Effingham counties. Approximately 24% of the Bulloch County labor force is employed by the government sector including one of the County's largest employers, Georgia Southern University.

Bulloch County with its growing economy, is a regional trade center for commerce, education, and health care. The County's highly diversified economy provides regional shopping centers and health care centers for each of the fore mention counties. The City of Statesboro is a leader in health care in southeast Georgia . East Georgia Regional Medical Center located within the city limits employs more than 750 employees and 75 physicians representing a wide range of specialties. East Georgia is a $60 million dollar hospital with approximately 150-beds and a Women's Pavilion.
